Projects to learn from
Jason Atkinson has been a part of over 60% of all the solar microgeneration projects in Alberta since 2009.
Below is a brief snapshot of just a few projects Jason has worked on.
City of leduc
Leduc, just south of Edmonton, finished a 1.14-megawatt installation that powers the town's recreation centre, all completed under Jason Atkinson’s watchful eye.
Jason believes that Installation projects have become routine and he works hard with communities on their solar installations.
City of Airdrie
The largest Municipal rooftop system in the Country was installed for the City of Airdrie under Jason’s watch in 2020. The solar array will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 1,000 tonnes^ per year, the equivalent of taking 275 cars off the road, and is expected to export approximately 140 kilowatts per hour back to the city grid during peak summer months
freedom Cannabis
Freedom Cannabis Inc. installed a state-of-the-art solar array at its 126,000 square foot facility west of Edmonton. This installation, at the time in 2019, was Canada's largest rooftop solar installation to date.
The solar installation in Acheson was part of Freedom Cannabis's overall commitment to reducing its impact on the environment. The company incorporates water remediation programs in its growing process, with the intention of minimizing waste.
This project was lead by Jason Atkinson and the savings predicted on an annual basis was upwards of $300,000/year
town of raymond
Raymond, an agricultural community, operated nine municipal buildings and all of its street lights by the sun. The town sells excess solar power to the electrical grid when it can and buys it back when it needs to. This was a project that Jason Atkinson of Proactive Planet is very pleased to have headed up.
Raymond has become what is believed to be Alberta’s first “net-zero” community. The money spent on power from the grid in January is anticipated to be recouped in July when the area experiences sunnier days.
